Feeding Activities: Living the Assumptionist’s Spirit

By. Bro. Ethiel Canlas Roxas, AA

By God’s grace, the members of the Assumptionist Lay-Religious Alliance in North America province were inspired to share their blessings in order to help others who are in need here in the Philippines. The feeding came into reality through the Kaloob Foundation, the efforts of the mother leaders in the area, and the cooperation of the apostolate team from the Adveniat Community.

Beneficiaries of these activities came from the Marytown and Daang Tubo (Water tunnel) communities. Marytown is the area of the apostolate of the Adveniat community and is a place where low-income families live. The demo-graphical profile of this community is that it is situated at the heart of the business district of Katipunan where schools like the Ateneo de Manila University, Miriam College, and other catholic and international schools are located. The people living in this community came from poor composed of the majority and some middle-level families. Many children are not well-fed and even the elderly are abandoned at home with too little food. Family members who can work are trying their best to bring food to the table but still due to the high prices of essential commodities, still many cannot afford to have 3 meals a day.

In order to answer the call to help our beneficiaries, a series of feeding was done as reflected in the table below.

The feeding program is done first by the praying/ novena to Our Lady of Perpetual Help and/ or the praying of the rosary for the healing of those who are sick. Aside from the bodily nourishment, rosaries and devotionals were distributed to the beneficiaries to complete their healing and satisfaction. Eight (8) Mothers (leaders) take turns in cooking a healthy meal and distributing them to the sick, elderly, and children. Thanks to their efforts and faithfulness this program was done with ease and full of meaning.

The beneficiaries were so happy that they send their heartfelt gratitude to the members of the Lay-Religious Alliance of North America, the Kaloob Foundation, and to the mothers who work untiringly to make the program successful. Also, they are praying that this program will continue so as to be able to help many hungry people. For the building of the Kingdom of God.
